The differences between the blocking action of curare and that of tlccamethonium have been nicely illustrated by the following experiments : a. Since d-tubocurari& affects only the end-plate, a muscle impulse initiated by direct excitation of the muscle fibre a t one end is propagated down the whole length of the fibre, past the end-plate region, and can be recorded a t the other end. I n the case of decamethonium, on the other hand, such a n impulse is propagated only as f a r a s thc junctional region, where it becomes blocked by
