TY - JOUR AU - Sivia, Jagtar AB - This paper presents a novel design of modified printed circular monopole antenna with defective ground structure for wideband applications. The antenna is designed, simulated and fabricated on FR4 substrate of dielectric constant 4.4 with a thickness of 1.6 mm. The basic design of antenna consists of a partial rectangular ground plane which exhibits the bandwidth of 7.62 GHz (from 1.73 to 9.36 GHz), 1.64 GHz (from 11.06 to 12.70 GHz) and 6.34 GHz (from 13.64 to 19.98 GHz). The antenna design is further modified by employing a triangular notch in the ground plane to enhance the impedance bandwidth. The simulated and measured return losses are compared and observed, which cover all the resonant frequencies over the frequency bands like WiMAX (2.5/3.5/5.5 GHz), WLAN (2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz), X-band (8–12 GHz) and Ku-band (12–18 GHz) for wireless communication applications as per FCC standards. The measured results and the results obtained from Ansoft HFSS simulator are in agreement with each other.
