TY - JOUR AU - Dillon, J. T. AB - What are the kinds of questions that may be posed for research? A dozen schemes proposing to classify research questions are surveyed, analyzed, and applied to the understanding and practice of inquiry. The extent to which the various schemes account for questions found in educational journals is estimated. Some principles and issues are identified to stimulate work on the classification of research questions in education and other enterprises of inquiry. On the whole, little is known about the kinds of questions that may be posed for research.
