Colbert University of Connecticut JAA: What is your role as the director of the Education Trust’s National Center for Transforming School Counseling ( TSC)? Hines: It is an ever-evolving role. In this position, I hope to serve as a conduit between universities, state departments of educa- tion, and practitioners in sharing information with them, as well as gathering information and data from them, around the role of the transformed school counselor. The three main areas with which I work are at the state level, the university level, and with preservice school counseling programs. While I am the only per- manent employee of the Education Trust’s National Center for Transforming School Counseling, there are 50 to 60 consultants around the country. These consultants include professional school counselors, school counselor educators, and school administra- tors. They spread the transforming work through contracts with school districts or state departments to lead training modules for school counselors and administrators about how they can trans- form the role of the school counselor in their districts.
