This symposium will bring together assessment scholars, researchers, music administrators, and higher education and K-12 music educators to share current thought, research, and practices of music assessment and will draw upon this knowledge to develop research priorities and recommen- dations for facilitating effective assessment practice at all levels. Keynote Speakers: Dr. Edward Asmus, Dr. Timothy Brophy, Dr. Richard Colwell, Dr. Paul Lehman This symposium wiU focus on the following key questions: 1. What is the purpose and role of assessment in music education in an increasingly politicized, datadriven, accountability-focused educational environment? 2. In what ways can effective assessment practice in I<-12 music education be facilitated? 3. In what ways can assessment data be most effectively used to improve music teaching and learning? 4.
