Mahwah NJ: Erlbaum, 1999, 263 pp., approx. $69.95 I was excited to review The New Rules of Measurement: What Every Psychologist and Educator Should Know for several reasons. First, as a psychometrician and an educator, if there were new rules of measurement, I certainly would want to know about them. Second, the editors and contributors to the book represent some of the brightest and most influential measurement specialists of our time. Third, given the increasing complexity of educational and psychological measurement and recent technological advances in this area, there is certainly a need for a book that brings together the important theoretical and statistical concepts and techniques of our field. My overall impression of the book is that it contains several fascinating chapters that should be of interest to many readers. Before elaborating on what I saw to be the strengths and weaknesses of the book, I must first say that the title really bothered me. Think for a moment about what the “new rules of measurement” could be. Of course, “new” is a relative term, but TI - Book Review: The New Rules of Measurement: What Every Psychologist and Educator Should Know JF - Applied Psychological Measurement DO - 10.1177/01466210022031651 DA - 2000-09-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/sage/book-review-the-new-rules-of-measurement-what-every-psychologist-and-DI9IBudSpq SP - 284 EP - 286 VL - 24 IS - 3 DP - DeepDyve ER -
