The author reports upon the effect of immediate knowledge of quiz results on final examination scores. THE purpose of this experiment was to determine the dIect of immedi­ ate and delayed knowledge of quiz results on three types of learning in freshman chemistry. The three types of learning were knowledge of facts and principles, application of facts and principles in non-quantitative prob­ lems, and application of facts and principles in quantitative problems. Stu­ dents in the experimental group obtained immediate knowledge of quiz results by means of a newly constructed instrument. Delayed knowledge of results was gained by the control group through the use of International Business Machines answer sheets whi(h were scored and returned to stu­ dents at the next meeting of their recitation sections. Since 1915, S. L Pressyl has been experimenting with individual ma­ chines and apparatus that gave students immediate knowledge of test re­ sults.
