TY - JOUR AU1 - Baron, Steve AU2 - Schmidt, Ruth A. AB - Through an exploratory study, based on interviews with retailfranchisees and franchisers belonging to the British FranchiseAssociation, the operational nature of the relationship betweenfranchisee and franchiser is explored. The views of franchisees andfranchisers on the nature and level of their respective responsibilitiesthroughout the relationship are sought, and differences in perceptionsare pinpointed. The early findings suggest that, whilst apparently afranchise is an opportunity for a new entrant with no previous businessexperience, the whole process from vetting and training, through totrading, is in fact based on the assumption that the entrant is familiarwith general business practice.
