A subject responds to each test item according to a five-point scale, allowing him to indicate the extent to which he agrees or disagrees with each statement. The test requires 15 to 25 minutes, and is scored by summing the ratings across the individual items, with weightings reversed for items negatively related to creativity. In one recent study (Davis, 1974), the test was administered to 68 students enrolled in a creativity course at the University of Wisconsin. The Hoyt reliability of the total test was .94. The instrument was validated against an operational criterion of creativeness. As part of course requirements, each student produced (a) an art or handicraft project, (b) a sample of creative writing (poetry or short story), (c) ideas for two inventions, and (d) ideas for a creative teaching strategy. Each person's total effort was rated by the first author on a seven-point scale according to its "creativeness." The ratings were generally easy to make.
