The author recom- mends the use of experimental and control groups matched according to pre-test scores. He then proceeds incorrectly to evaluate the dif- ference in gains by testing the null hypothesis concerning experimental and control post-test means. Here it would be more appropriate to test the difference between the means of changes shown by the two groups. The reviewer has not attempted to present an exhaustive list of the errors and ambiguities to be found in this text. He has chosen certain examples as evidence to support his judgment that the book is in- adequate as an introduction to the understanding of statistical principles. Many teachers of statistics, including the reviewer, will find the choice of topics disappointing in that it differs little from the content of introductory statistics texts of 25 years ago. The value of this text is seriously impaired by the omission of the binomial distri- bution, the sign test, and the simple applications of TI - Book Review: Tests Différentiels D'Intelligence (Differential Tests of Intelligence) JF - Educational and Psychological Measurement DO - 10.1177/001316445701700423 DA - 1957-12-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/sage/book-review-tests-diff-rentiels-d-intelligence-differential-tests-of-GimxqpYj8W SP - 637 EP - 639 VL - 17 IS - 4 DP - DeepDyve ER -
