As a leading expert in cardiogenic shock, Prof. Thiele delivered the Andreas Grüntzig Lecture in Interventional Cardiology at the 2024 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress where he explored ad- vancements and future strategies for managing the condition. Prof. Thiele studied medicine in Berlin and undertook clinical training at the Heart Center Leipzig of the University of Leipzig under the leadership of Gerhard Schuler. As a research fellow, he focused on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging at the German Heart Institute in Berlin and also at Leeds General Infirmary, University of Leeds, UK. His main research inter - ests include cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support, acute myocardial infarction, acute heart failure, and structural heart disease. He has published over 1200 articles in leading scientific journals and served as President of the German Cardiac Society (DGK) between 2023 and 2025.
