TY - JOUR AU - Maddux, James E. AB - This paper outlines eight assumptions about psychological problems and their treatment that closely link clinical and counseling psychology to social psychology. The assumptions are used to support the notion that an understanding of social psychology is essential for competent clinical practice. It is also argued that attempts to define the domain of the social—clinical—counseling interface in terms of topics or content are inconsistent with the spirit of the movement and likely to be counterproductive.
