TY - JOUR AU1 - Vanty, David F. AU2 - Vaillant, Suad K. AB - AbstractThis study investigated the role of affect in self-gratification. A total of 48 elementary school children were divided into three groups. Mood was directly induced by asking two groups of children to think of tilings that made them happy or sad. The third group was assigned to a control condition. They were then given the opportunity to help themselves to money. Children in the happy condition self-rewarded more than those in both the sad and the control conditions. There were found to be significant overall differences among the affect groups at the .05 .01 levels. There were no significant differences between the sad and the control conditions at the .05 .01 levels in relation to self-gratification.
