Abstract This book is another excellent addition to the high-quality Contemporary Neurology Series. This is not a comprehensive textbook of clinical neuropharmacology but, rather, concentrates on principles of drug therapy in neurology. An excellent introductory chapter summarizes the fundamental principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and toxicity in relationship to neuropharmacology. Subsequent chapters cover movement disorders, epilepsy, cerebrovascular disease, migraine, immune-mediated disorders, psychiatric disorders, dementia, pain, and acute drug intoxication. Generally, each chapter contains detailed pathophysiologic, neurochemical, and clinical background material followed by practical discussions of drug therapy. A superb collection of authors has been assembled for this book. The style is very readable, particularly with the use of clearly demarcated headings and subheadings and numerous tables, diagrams, and other figures. The book is recommended for neurologists, residents, and medical students.
