TY - JOUR AU1 - Peters, Fiona AU2 - Sandberg, Eric AU3 - Heholt, Ruth AB - Fiona Peters, Eric Sandberg, and Ruth Heholt The editors of Crime Fiction Studies are proud to launch this new Edinburgh University Press journal providing a forum for the dissemination of contemporary high-quality scholarly work within the broad, multidisciplinary and multi-media field of crime fiction studies. It has developed out of the activities of the International Crime Fiction Association and the annual Captivating Criminality conference. The journal is supported by a website (https://www.captivatingcriminalitynetwork.net) which includes information about the International Crime Fiction Association’s annual book prize, an active crime fiction studies blog, and information about previous and forthcoming conferences. Both academic and public interest in crime fiction have increased dramatically in recent years, and the success of the Captivating Criminality conference series, initiated in 2014, is testament to this. Now in its seventh year, the conference has grown in stature and importance, attracting increasing numbers of delegates from every corner of the globe, and from disciplines across the academy. It has hosted eminent speakers, including leading academics and professional crime writers. World-renowned author Val McDermid has acted as a keynote speaker twice, and has graciously agreed to provide a preface for this inaugural issue.
