TY - JOUR AU - Reilley, Robert R. AB - This review of the literature traces the history of all the short forms of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). The use of MMPI short forms owes its popularity to the cumbersome length of the full form and efforts to create meaningful alternatives for use in clinical settings have abounded. The past decade has witnessed a proliferation of these short forms accompanied by a rationale change in methodological approach. Empirical validations of all of the forms are considered along with their findings and recommendations for their use with various populations. Although the individual clinician is urged to seek validation of appropriate instruments within his or her own population of interest the further development of of the MMPI short forms appears to be an expanding and fruitful area of research in the foreseeable future.
