Nationally recognized scholars offer important ideas with clear implications for classroom management, instructional design, and teacher education. Two theoretical avenues to explore the sociocultural factors of minority achievement are presented: (1)a broad sociological approach focused on sociohistorical and economic factors of achievement, and (2) a context-specific approach focused on the organization of teaching and learning activities. I will briefly comment on each chapter, and then discuss these approaches. Cortes' panoramic historical and legal view of the minority educational experiences in the United States, particularly in California, outlines demographic, economic, and educational reform trends.
