Ethnocentrism, "intolerance of ambiguity," and abstract reasoning ability

Ethnocentrism, "intolerance of ambiguity," and abstract reasoning ability "In an attempt to investigate the relations between abstract reasoning ability, ethnocentrism, and "intolerance of ambiguity', a test of syllogistic reasoning together with attitude scales measuring ethnocentrism and "intolerance of ambiguity' were filled out anonymously by 57 students in a classroom setting. The results indicate that: (1) ethnocentrism is positively associated with "intolerance of ambiguity,' (2) ethnocentrism is related to a poor ability to reason abstractly." http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Abnormal Psychology American Psychological Association

Abstract

"In an attempt to investigate the relations between abstract reasoning ability, ethnocentrism, and "intolerance of ambiguity', a test of syllogistic reasoning together with attitude scales measuring ethnocentrism and "intolerance of ambiguity' were filled out anonymously by 57 students in a classroom setting. The results indicate that: (1) ethnocentrism is positively associated with "intolerance of ambiguity,' (2) ethnocentrism is related to a poor ability to reason abstractly."
