[In the scope of this paper, BIM-based quantity takeoff feature was studied in Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Navisworks Manage to give design and takeoff solutions for engineers and surveyors to extract the quantities of materials without a deviation from real values. The steps taken to minimize the time consumed during the design and takeoff processes were also included in this research. The study covered 11 models and 27 cases, taking into account various assemblies of building elements and different methods to design these assemblies. The methods were then compared in terms of accuracy, time efficiency, and skill level of the designer/surveyor. The given solutions were then tested on a bigger scale by designing and extracting the quantities of a multi-story residential building. In case where the suggested solutions were ignored, a deviation of (1–33)% in Revit quantities and (1–247)% in Navisworks was observed. On the other hand, designing the model and extracting its quantities following the proposed solutions proved a 0.0% deviation from real values. The suggested scheme of workflow for the design and quantity takeoff for the architectural and structural models of the building proved that consumed time was at least halved and, in some instances, quartered.]
