Phytophthora Diseases Worldwide

Phytophthora Diseases Worldwide Leaf blights, collar rots, root rots, stem cankers and fruit rots — all are diseases caused by species of Phytophthora . This genus includes biotrophs and necrotrophs, species that parasitize a wide range of plants, and species that have been recorded only from a single host. The diseases they cause result in economic losses of many millions of dollars annually in horticulture, agriculture, forestry and conservation. They are difficult to isolate without specialized techniques and, once in culture, are difficult and tedious to identify. This latest book on Phytophthora is a welcome addition to the literature on the genus. Some of the older monographs are no longer in print, or their content has had to be re‐interpreted in the light of recent molecular investigations. But this book is not just a revision of past texts; the authors have collated information on both the biology of the genus and each described species, so that the book is aimed at both professional plant pathologists and graduate students, as well as at agriculturalists who work with diseases caused by Phytophthora spp. The book is in two sections; the first seven chapters are a general introduction to the genus, with a short http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Plant Pathology Wiley
