Effect Analysis in Structural-Equation Models II Fox (1980) describes a simplified and general method for calculating path-analytic effect decompositions. This article shows how that method may be extended to the calculation of specific indirect effects, that is, effects mediated by specific intervening variables. The method employs only the information contained in the structural coefficients of the model and is implemented through simple matrix computations.
