Its website is an excellent resource on the Ebola virus outbreak in west Africa, with running news and epidemiological updates. The centre has developed a case definition for classification of confirmed cases of Ebola in the EU. Related laboratory diagnostic algorithms and management guidelines have also been released. The site lists health topics by disease group and alphabetically. The grouping on emerging and vector-borne diseases links to 37 sections ranging from Alkhurma haemorrhagic fever to Schmallenberg virus and viral haemorrhagic fevers. Featured publications include the annual epidemiological report for 2013, weekly and monthly influenza surveillance overviews, technical reports on Ebola and severe respiratory disease associated with Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus. The site’s surveillance atlas of infectious diseases is a new tool for interacting with the latest available data and is an expanding resource. This is an excellent site for all healthcare practitioners wanting to know more about infectious diseases, public health and global health. It will prove particularly useful for nursing students, researchers and policymakers. www.ecdc.europa.eu
