Putnam’s (2012) gentle commentary on our orig- inal article (sleddens, hughes, o’connor, Beltran, Baranowski, Nicklas, et al., 2012). in our article, we evaluated the psychometrics of the 36-item children’s Behavior Questionnaire (cBQ), including item response mod - eling analyses, and introduced a single-item temperament scale for use in applied work. this scale is based on the three broad temperamental traits of Surgency/Extraversion, Negative Affectivity, and Effortful Con- trol measured by several validated forms of the cBQ (i.e., the standard 195-item form, the short 94-item form, and the very short 36-item form; rothbart, ahadi, hershey, & Fisher, 2001; Putnam & rothbart, 2006). the single-item
