SAPPHIRE Don't HanB Up I'm listening to the Orlons "Don't Hang Up" fierce rhythmic growl from ghetto girls in sequins. Crystals, galaxies oflight, & on the wall behind the wheelchair are five clocks. Fierce ghetto vinyl groove. I'm sitting in Denny's eating chicken fried steak. You're home in a wheelchair, behind you crystals & clocks hang from the walls in your house of colored glass. Orange plastic seats, hydrogenated 'steak': Denny's. On your wall the word NOW is tacked in gold. Clear vases & bowls sit filled with colored glass some of it doesn't work, but it's more than clutter. Next to the fridge NOW in gold letters. He said you said, "I want to survive." Some stuff doesn't work. Clutter? No. Too much weed? No. It's a desire for beauty. He said you said you wanted to survive. Then he admitted you hadn't talked in two weeks. Marijuana? A desire for beauty? You'd have liked to become a decorator, he said. Then he said you hadn't talked in two weeks. He feeds you, like a baby bird, with an eyedropper. You wanted to become a decorator? In the hospital you say to me, "Remember you had a flute."
