EDITORIAL Cbe .BrTtlsb lournal of Inebrletp (Akobolism and Drug Addiction) VOL XLIII. No. I. J U LY-OCTOBER, I945 FIVE years ago it was suggested that the name of the Society had become archaic and did not represent its more developed interests. The word “ inebriety ” is now hardly ever used except by people who have an unfortunate desire to be jocose. Nevertheless a change was thought a serious step and a break with our estab- lished tradition and the question was shelved until after the war. At the last meeting of the Council the suggestion was brought up again and it was proposed that the new name should be “ The Society for the Study of Addiction (Alcohol and other Drugs),” and that the Journal should change-its name to “ British Journal of Addiction (Alcohol and other Drugs),” and it was decided to put these changes to the vote of the general meeting in January, r946. The Society has never been more active than it is at present.
