In a world with many development journals, why choose to publish in Developmental Dynamics ?

In a world with many development journals, why choose to publish in Developmental Dynamics ? According to ISI's Web of Science Journal Citation Reports, the field of developmental biology is represented by 37 journals. So as an author, the question naturally arises, why should I consider publishing in Developmental Dynamics as opposed to one of the other many development journals? The short answer is that it comes down to two slogans we often recite at editorial board meetings: Developmental Dynamics provides fast, fair, and friendly review; and Developmental Dynamics allows you to publish your study your way. But before we explain what these slogans mean to you as authors, let us cite a few facts. In the 2007 journal citation report, the impact factor of Developmental Dynamics placed it 14th of 37 development journals. However, we ranked 3rd of 37 development journals in the number of articles published in the field, and we ranked 6th of 37 development journals in the total number of citations to journal articles. Thus, the journal attracts a large readership, and papers published in Developmental Dynamics are viewed by other scientists to be highly relevant to the field and of high quality. Moreover, worldwide, over 5,000 institutions subscribe to Developmental Dynamics . Beyond that, Developmental Dynamics is fully compliant with the current open access policies of all major funding agencies, including the NIH, HHMI, and the Wellcome Trust. Finally, a large percentage of our content—including all reviews, special issues, primers, and highlights—is open access immediately upon publication, and all content published in Developmental Dynamics becomes open access on the journal's Web site 1 year after publication. Now for the slogans. First, editors and staff at Developmental Dynamics strive to provide fast, fair, and friendly review. At Developmental Dynamics , the review process is fast, averaging 22 days from submission on the Web site to first decision. Accepted papers appear online in 5 weeks and are published in print copy 2–3 weeks later. Thus, your work reaches your audience quickly. At Developmental Dynamics the review process is fair. We have the largest editorial board of any development journal (14 editors and approximately 200 members of the editorial board, and of course, thousands of reviewers), so your manuscript will always be evaluated by experts in the field and by scientists who understand the importance of your work and can evaluate it fairly. At Developmental Dynamics , the review process is friendly. By that we mean that the editors work with you to help make your science as strong as it can reasonably be. At Developmental Dynamics , the editors are “deciders” who respect the reviewers, yet weight and balance their comments to reach a fair decision. Moreover, we do not put obstacles in your way: there is no charge for color, regardless of how many figures you publish, and there are no page charges, regardless of how long your article might be. The second slogan emphasizes that at Developmental Dynamics we allow you to tell your story the best possible way. We do not limit you to a fixed number of words, we do not limit the number of citations that you can include, and we do not limit the number of figures that you can publish, provided that each figure plays an integral role in telling the story. So, why publish in Developmental Dynamics ? We hope that you will agree that the better question is why not? http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Developmental Dynamics Wiley
