Surgical management of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Abstract
Surgical treatment of hepatoma still represents the only curative approach for hepatocellular carcinoma. Modern radiologic techniques have allowed the detection of earlier lesions in high-risk patient groups that are amenable to therapy. Limited surgical resection can be considered now for selected patients with cirrhosis. For conventionally nonresectable patients, liver transplantation and implantation of hepatic artery catheters for delivery of chemotherapy are novel experimental approaches.
