Astaxanthin formation by the yeastPhaffia rhodozyma on molasses

Astaxanthin formation by the yeastPhaffia rhodozyma on molasses Phaffia rhodozyma grown on 7–10% B or C garde molasses contained 2 to 3 times more astaxanthin than reported earlier for this red yeast. Yield of astaxanthin with 10% molasses as fermentation substrate was 15.3 μg/ml which was about 3 times higher than with glucose and 2 times higher than with a sugar blend representative of the molasses. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Biotechnology Letters Springer Journals

Abstract

Phaffia rhodozyma grown on 7–10% B or C garde molasses contained 2 to 3 times more astaxanthin than reported earlier for this red yeast. Yield of astaxanthin with 10% molasses as fermentation substrate was 15.3 μg/ml which was about 3 times higher than with glucose and 2 times higher than with a sugar blend representative of the molasses.
