Library and literacy professionals advocate for diverse books and programs in libraries to promote emotional growth and highlight underrepresented voices. However, the extant literature has shown that diverse books are not often used in public library storytimes. This study explores the extent to which storytime providers in the United States used diverse books in virtual storytime programs offered immediately before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results from this study mark a slight increase in the use of diverse books during virtual storytimes as compared to results from prior studies of in-person programs; however, limited diverse representations persist. Storytime providers should be purposeful about selecting resources to share in virtual programs and take measures to ensure that those selections align with professional values.
